What you will learn

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and scope of the unfair trading provisions under the DMCC

  • Define key terms: trader, consumer, commercial practice, product, average consumer, transactional decision

  • Identify prohibited unfair practices – including misleading actions/omissions, aggressive practices, lack of professional diligence, and the list of banned practices (Schedule 20).

  • Recognise enforcement mechanisms (criminal offences vs civil enforcement) and basic penalties

Clare is a Chartered Trading Standards Practitioner with 20 years of regulatory experience in a broad range of legislative areas. She has an excellent understanding of the wider regulatory environment having worked with a variety of local and national stakeholders. She has particular experience in providing support to organisations and businesses to achieve compliance through advice, auditing and training. Clare is recognised as a leading figure in the Trading Standards field, holding positions as subject matter expert, contributing to the development of guidance for the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and the European Commission, and delivering training for the national qualification for Trading Standards (CPCF) and L6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship
